Concert Band

The Fort Zumwalt West Concert Band program is made up of four different bands, and is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion.
Wind Ensemble: Wind Ensemble is our top performing concert ensemble at Fort Zumwalt West. This ensemble requires the highest commitment from students and is a college level class in terms of preparedness, expectations, and level of musical literature performed. Students must be committed to daily practice to be a member of the Wind Ensemble. Private Lessons are preferred, but not required. Percussion students in this course are also a part of the Percussion Orchestra chamber ensemble.
Symphonic Band: Symphonic Band is our largest concert band, comprising of students in grades 10-12. This group performs at a high level and continues developing musicianship and continued student growth on their individual instrument. Percussion students in this course are also a part of Symphonic Percussion chamber ensemble.
Freshman Band: Freshman Band is exclusively a concert ensemble for 9th grade band students. This ensemble focuses on fundamentals of musicianship necessary for high school and easing the transition for freshman students. 9th grade Percussion students will be enrolled in Freshman Percussion class.
Junior Varsity Band: The Junior Varsity Band is a group that meets during 1st semester. This group is a non-marching group that performs at home football games during Pre-Game and in the stands during the game. This ensemble also develops concert band technique and will perform at the winter concert in December. This group is a co-curricular ensemble, which means that students will meet for class during 3rd hour, 1st semester, in addition to a rehearsal and performance schedule set outside of school hours. All rehearsals and events are mandatory and are part of each students’ grade.
